A Good Book

Can someone please recommend a good book for me? I'm DYING for a good book and I hate buying a book I may not love---it's such a guessing game.

Please, please help me find a good read - I want a real page turner. Send recommendations immediately.

Here's a few I enjoyed over the last year or so:
East of Eden
Water for Elephants
Eat, Pray, Love
The Kite Runner
The Other Boelyn Girl

Hey Shauri -

Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet is great (was an Oprah rec) - it is about a town building a cathedral in the 1100's England. There is a sequel too, which takes place in the 1300's - same town, 2 centuries later.

I love Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, but it's a pretty dense read.

Kristen recommends The Diving Bell and the Butterfly

I'm currently enjoying "Three Cups of Tea"

And for older books, "A Map of the World", "Ellen Foster", "The Time Traveler's Wife", and "Memory Keeper's Daughter"

Good luck!

My favorite book in the past few months was "The Book Thief" by Marcus Zuzak (something like that). Check out Amazon for a great description.

I just finished John Adams and it was terrific. I so heart John Adams now. And definitely Abigail Adams. She was so amazing. I'm now watching the HBO miniseries based off the book. Yeah, I'm a little obsessed with Johnny Boy. I'm digging into Atlas Shrugged at the moment, I can't really say it's captivating, but it is the second most influential book according to Americans. So we'll see. :) Good luck finding your next must read!

Okay - a couple quick, page-turning reads: The Ivy Chronicles & The Innocent Man (Grisham). I read The Ivy Chronicles at the beach and was laughing or gasping the entire time. There are a few "naughty" words and a pretty steamy scene - but maybe those are pluses!:) The Innocent Man will have you kicking and screaming at the absurdity of the legal system. It's a true story and captivating. Not sure your IQ will be increased by either - but you'll be able to read them on the fly.

I haven't read anything that great lately, but I'll second that the Time Traveler's Wife was good. Also, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan was good. I read that several months ago.

c'mon, shauri, haven't you joined the "twilight hysteria?" (no offense to all of you who are twilight fans). so, i'll second the recommendation of The Memory Keeper's Daughter. it was intense. and a friend of mine recommended The Beekeeper's Apprentice (a Sherlock Holmes book). mind you, i'm not an avid mystery reader, but this one was really, really, really good.

I LOVED The 13th Tale by Diane Setterfield. It was the kind of book where I had to stay up until 4am reading. I also really enjoyed The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls. Three Cups of Tea is a great book but I don't know if it's that "page turner" that you desire. Lastly and definitely under the guilty pleasure pool read category is Emily Griffin's book series - Something Borrowed, Something Blue and Baby Proof. Very fun quick reads that I recommend.
PS-The Book Thief also gets 2 big thumbs up! Let me know what you think of these.

Everyone in my book club loved Broken for You by Stephanie Kallos.

Despite that crazy title, it is NOT a depressing book. Very good and unpredictable. We all plowed through it.
