I think you already know this, but I'd like my vote counted in your tally. So mark one up for don't email.
And for the record, I think he paused because he's probably not ready to meet any of your family members.
But if he doesn't email, he's going to be sorry because soon enough he'll run into the bomb ridin' illiterate dope gangstas late at night in the bridge.
I vote for don't email. Maybe he went out of town or had some other reason not to check his email yet...
